This resulted in an unoblivious Kate (at the beginning) trying to live up to her father's expectations in an attempt to seek his approval。 Imagine the turmoil of emotions Kate must be going through, when she conjured up multiple universes, multiple personas and different versions of Kate, in some way, wishing she could be herself instead of trying to present a courageous front all the time。Imagine how she felt when she came to the realization that, her father, the man she initially tried to 'impersonate' orchestrated the murder of her mother。 We couldn't possibly even fathom the torment and obstacles she must have witnessed while growing up, so who are we to judge her? The students at Colton Academy, the FTF cadets, the adults and even Soro。 These people so called fought for the 'righteous' side, but does this necessarily reflect who they are? What gave them the right to criticise someone whose past is incomprehensible, tragic, to the likes of them?I really wanted a happy ending for Kate, I really did。 I was moved beyond tears when I realised Kate ended up dying。 This shouldn't have happened。Good people shouldn't die。A person fighting against her fate shouldn't have to die。A person trying so hard shouldn't have to die。A person like her should have the opportunity to enjoy her life for once。But Kate died。 And before she died, she wanted to let August absorb her soul and she could become part of him。 Either she was trying to take comfort in the fact that she could continue to live on, or simply wanting August to be the one to take her life, it does not matter。 What matters is there Kate saw a glimmer of possibility that she could continue to stay with August, and she took that chance in an effort to possibly guide him throughout, and maybe, just maybe, hoping to once again see the dreaming boy that would rather burn alive himself than fall。 This hit me really hard。 In many ways, Kate and August form both sides of a coin。 They are genuine soulmates。 And that transcend everything else。"It's not about what you are August, it's about who, and that stupid dreaming boy - That wasn't a mistake, or a delusion, or a waste of energy。 It was you。"August。 The boy that used to yearn to be a human。 His personality underwent a change in this book, caused by the 'Fall' where he lost a part of himself。 And whose interactions with Kate were always the highlight for me。 As August spends time with Kate, he was beginning to find the lost puzzle pieces of 'YOU', the notion built on 'WHERE DID YOU GO?'。 August starts to question his own existence, not of him being a monster, but whether the music he plays could achieve greater heights, whether it could soothe souls, or do something even more, like saving them。 Even though Kate was dead, I feel she was never dead in August's eyes。 She was always there for him, and still will be。 "So where did you go?"Kate will be happy to know that just perhaps, the boy she knew all along never left。 Rating: 4。8/5 。。。more

While I adored the first book in this series, Our Dark Duet fell a little flat for me。 There was such stark character changes between the two books that felt unbelievable, or at the very least left me feeling disconnected。 Again, the pacing in the high action scenes was rushed。 The addition of a new city in this dystopian/post-apocalyptic world was really interesting and well thought out。 I think a lot of my issues with this book come down to the fact that I just don't find the idea of a teenage While I adored the first book in this series, Our Dark Duet fell a little flat for me。 There was such stark character changes between the two books that felt unbelievable, or at the very least left me feeling disconnected。 Again, the pacing in the high action scenes was rushed。 The addition of a new city in this dystopian/post-apocalyptic world was really interesting and well thought out。 I think a lot of my issues with this book come down to the fact that I just don't find the idea of a teenage soldiers appealing in my reading anymore。 If I were still in the target demographic when I read this, I think I would have really loved it。 。。。more

It took me so long to finish this book, I got into multiple reading slumps while reading it and picked up different stories in between, which had nothing to do with the book at all actually。 I really enjoyed it, I simply wasn’t gravitating towards it。 And as I was finally nearing the end, I had a little over 100 pages left, I accidentally got spoiled on the ending and now I have no desire to fully complete it whatsoever。 I really enjoyed the first book, although I had some complaints which were It took me so long to finish this book, I got into multiple reading slumps while reading it and picked up different stories in between, which had nothing to do with the book at all actually。 I really enjoyed it, I simply wasn’t gravitating towards it。 And as I was finally nearing the end, I had a little over 100 pages left, I accidentally got spoiled on the ending and now I have no desire to fully complete it whatsoever。 I really enjoyed the first book, although I had some complaints which were all due to personal preferences entirely。 Now with the second book, the characters were even better than within the first installment。 Their development was very well crafted and written and I enjoyed both character even more, especially Kate! I was so happy about me finally really loving her character and I loved August just as much。 The conflicts the both of them went through and their development。。amazingly done!Sadly, I still didn’t connect too much with the book overall which also happened with the first book。 I really enjoyed the story and I appreciated the characters but there was something keeping me off of the book that I really cannot explain properly because objectively, these books are very well written。 That’s definitely why I struggled to find the motivation to pick it up。 As soon as I was back in the story, it was fine but again, there was something missing for me to be super obsessed and invested。 I wanted to finish it though but since I now know a huge spoiler and I really don’t know how I feel about it, I have no desire at all to continue, mainly to read this specific spoiler。 I‘m sure, I could appreciate the ending to a point as a well crafted part of the story but I‘m strangely struggling with the duology overall already, I feel no deep connection to anything and so therefor I don’t want to read this spoiler because I don’t like it based on my feelings right now。 I can’t deal with it and I don’t want deal with it。 Anyways, I really appreciate the world and the characters。 The writing style of course is gorgeous and I‘m super sad that the duology didn’t work for me as I wanted it to。 。。。more
